The topic I chose for my project was isolation. In the photo there’s a silhouette of a person sitting on the floor overlooking the city. I wanted the model to be isolated from society. I chose to have them sitting by themselves and in all black. I wanted the model to be wearing black to represent sorrow and give it a gloomy feel.

This edit of me jumping over the lasso reaching in mid air is representing that you shouldn't let anyone hold you back from your success. This photo is also representing that not everyone wants the best for you or wants to see you doing good for yourself. You should always keep your head up and push for what you want and leave all negativity behind you.
My photography piece is called "They made me smile" I chose this title because I feel like it is very eerie which is what I was going for. I chose the topic of insanity because I honestly felt like that would have been fun to work with. I painted a smile on my face and made it appear as if the smile was held open by wires, very forced and controlled. I went with this in the inspiration of American horror story asylum, as extreme as those scenarios were it still had the idea that the people who are insane and are in these institutions aren't actually helped or taken care of. They are just heavily medicated enough to appear better. I blacked out my eyes for a more dramatic take on emptiness that the person is feeling because there is the famous saying, the eyes are the way to the soul. I decided to make my hair look a little distressed and I used a white robe because white symbolizes insanity. Lastly, I blacked out the background because I felt like it was not important to my point.
The title of my photo is "Is there any difference?". In my photo, I used two apples in two different colors to show how people see GMO as a bad thing. By showing two different apples to show one has GMO and the other does not, but in the end, they are the same. I chose green for the background because it represents health and GMOs are not bad. The blue represents likeability.
The name of my work "Snow Provokes Feelings of Nostalgia". It is a young man playing outside in the snow making a snow angel. The snow on the floor reminds me of when I was a little child and how I used to always play in the snow. I chose myself because i wanted to do something I always did as a child in the snow.
The title of my project is “ everything’s okay ...” My photos are a series so you will see two pictures . The model has messy hair , bruises all over her body and face , a males hand and the model is wearing a white shirt . The white shirt is symbolizing innocents , the model had bruises on her neck and shoulder to show the abusive marks . The model also had bags under her eyes mixed with mascara to show that she was crying and can’t really sleep . Her hair isn’t done because she’s showing she doesn’t care about anything at this point . There is a male hand to represent he’s the abuser . In the first picture the male is making the model look up to him and look him in the eyes when she doesn’t want to do she just stays looking away . In the second photo the model is grabbing the models hair back as the model is trying to pull up her shirt to hid the bruise on her shoulder . This one is representing embarrassment because she does not want anyone to know about what’s happening behind closed doors . The lighting is dark and gloomy to represent how she feels inside and so you see that it’s not a happy story . The message of my project is that it’s never to late to leave ! someone should not go through this and you should not have to stay in silence , it’s never your fault !
The name of my artwork is "vibing on a Friday night". The theme of my artwork is living in the moment. My photo was actually accidentally taken. Me, my friend Lily, my sister Michelle, and her friend Cassidy were all having a movie night and the two of them wanted an Instagram photo, and this one was accidentally taken between shots. You can see my dog jumping on my sister, and Cassidy laughing at Lily which was completely unscripted. In my opinion, it perfectly captures the theme of living in the moment because they were genuinely living in the moment. I chose the theme living in the moment, because to me, living in the moment is extremely important. I think that life is short and we can't waste it. We need to appreciate the little things, and we need to do our best to live life to its fullest, because even though it can be messy, life is a beautiful thing when you want it to be.
What I see in the photo is a skull with red tape on its mouth. The skull is on a light source and in the back of the pic there is the tape roll, it is also on the same light source as the skull. The light source looks like a long rectangular light that is sticking out of the wall. The reason why I chose the skull and the red tape is because I thought that they were good items to use. Everything I did was in a rush because I didn't have a topic nor did I have a picture, so I used a couple of items that were available to me and came up with an idea by using the items. The red tape was a good way of showing pain and danger, and the way I think of these words, considering that the tape is covering the mouth of the skull, is that it is dangerous to remain silent because if you do remain silent and nothing is being spoken out about then nothing will change for the better. If you know something is wrong in the world and you decide to remain silent than that wrong thing will only continue to get worse and worse until it starts inflicting pain, and that pain will ultimately lead to death. Death is being represented in the picture by the skull. Another way to look at how silence can hurt is domestic violence. If the person is constantly abused and is forced to remain silent due to their complicated situation than the pain that is inflicted on that person will continue to occur, and in more cases than not that person's abuse will continue to worsen due to their silence, in some domestic abuse cases their abuse gets so bad that it leads to murder. The overall message is to not stay quiet and to not lose your voice no matter what because words hold a lot of power.
What you see in my photo is two different colored people with a zipper in the middle, metaphorically " coming together ". I chose my two models based on the color of their skin, one model has lighter skin than the other. This photo is based on how the color of your skin should not matter, we are all human beings and racism should not occur in the world any longer. Sadly, racism is still a big issue in society to this day, so I wanted to bring to everyone's attention that someone's skin color should not matter ! We are all the same inside, no matter the shade of our skin.
The name of my photo is "The Luminosity of Youthfulness." The model is sitting in a comfortable, warm and welcoming setting while wearing white to show purity. She is holding string lights and smiling at them to represent her life and how bright it is while you're young. The background has a subtle tint of purple which is the color that symbolizes youth.
"Time Flies" In the image, there is a girl looking at a clock in a dark room. The time on the clock is passing by rapidly. No matter what, everyone grows up and gets old. This is the reason why I chose a black background because it represents the sadness that people might feel when they realize how fast their life has passed. The model is wearing pink to represent harmony and inner peace, since there's nothing you can do to stop time it's better just to accept it.
In my photo you see me dressed in my cultural clothing and in my everyday clothing. I chose to do this because today when people see a Middle Eastern man they start to worry not knowing i'm just a harmless teenager. There are many stereotypes today about people from all kinds of religions and cultures. I chose the title name "Spotlight" because when im in public and there aren't many Arabs i'm usually being stared at a lot and given dirty looks.
The title of my photo is called "Stubborn Siku". Within the photo, you can see myself and my siberian husky Siku. My original plan was to show a concept of loyalty between us but as you can see, my lovely dog had other plans. Because he decided not to cooperate that evening, I decided to change the concept from loyalty to stubbornness. Everyone believes huskies are an extremely loyal species and yes, they are right but they can also be stubborn. In the picture, I was telling him to sit down and he wouldn't listen to me and immediately ran off right after my mother took the picture.
The name of my work is "Innocence of Ignorance." It is composed of a girl outside covering her eyes with a pink ribbon. Originally I wanted it to symbolize finding peace in bad situations. But it is more about her removing herself from the situation. Sometimes it is better to not know things. That is why the girl is putting on the ribbon herself instead of it being bound to her by force. I wanted the girl to stay pure, so she is wearing white, and I lowered the contrast and saturation to give a softer feel of the photo. I wanted the background to be trees with no leaves on them to signify death and of things coming to an end. I left the saturation the same in the ribbon because I wanted that to be the focus of the image. It is what is giving her life and peace.
The title of my photo is called "Property of Society". The concept of my photo is how society expects people to look. In my photo i used a friend as a model to demonstrate how people see women in society. She has a straight face and has a bar code across her lips. She is in a darkened area to make it look like that she lost all hope. The black and white of the image is illustrating how dramatic the situation is. i am trying to show that society makes women feel like they have to look a certain way.
The title of my photo is called "does it matter" The concept of my photo is in the end we will all return to our natural habitat. I used a man as my model with clothing that doesn't show him as a person. I used nature as my background to show that hes falling there after death. Everybody dies and no one will remember you.. UNLESS you have an impact on someone. I removed his face and limbs to show how easy people are forgotten after they pass away.
The title of my project is "What Goes Around Comes Around". In this image you will see 3 girls in a line. The line starts from short and gets taller. The girl in the front is wearing a blue shirt. She is wearing blue because the color blue represents sadness. the two girls behind her are wearing these long black and white dresses. The color black represents evil because the two girls are evil. The color white represent innocence, in this image its saying that they are trying to act innocent but inside they are actually evil. The girl behind the girl sitting down is stabbing her in the back. Then the last girl is stabbing the second girl in the back. This picture is about karma and how it always comes back around to people.
The title of my photo is "Double Standards". The concept of my photo is how double standards are very controversial today and how much of an effect it can have on somebody. In the center of the photo, I have Abdulhamid and Mariem talking to each as they come out of the elevator. Mariem looks shy to have so many people around. To the right of them there is Afnan and Rihanna and they look like they are talking crap about Mariem. To the left is Obad and he looks he is hyping Abdulhamid up. This represents double standards because when a girl talks to lots of guys, she is perceived as a bad person with no self respect but when a guys talks to lots of girls it okay and he is even praised by society.
The title of my photo is " Why me". The concept of my photo is domestic violence and why are people getting abused that leads to depression. I used myself as the person that is hiding from the men because I was petrified and I didn't want to be abused/ hurt. In the photo I am hiding under the sink and the teddy bear is a couple of feets away from me also there is a foot creeping up in the bathroom with the door opened a little. I chose this area of where to take the picture because it represents peoples depression and how scared people are when it comes to this cause. I made the background black and white because it represents fear and innocence. I also made the hoodie standout for it to represent depression/ sadness.
In this photograph you see 4 photographs of me. Each one has a different pose and a different facial expression. I used high contrast and lowered the brightness so that my skin wouldn't be too glossy and shiny. I also incorporated the color red in my hair. RED is the main color that represents ' Love'. I wore the color yellow. YELLOW is the brightest color of the visible spectrum, and it it's the most noticeable to the human eye. It means happiness and optimism. it is the color of high energy, enthusiasm, hope, fun and cheerfulness. When people look at this i want them to think of how confident i am within myself and on the outside. I want to be portrayed as comfortable in my own skin. the message is: Love yourself more than anything else. NEVER depend on anyone to love you more than yourself. Find happiness within your own self.
